Being Sick is No Fun, But it Helps Me Get Things Done

I think its gonna be like this for a while, that is, me not posting for
weeks, and then Lacey yelling at me through the comment feature. I'll bring
this up again, that recently I have had nothing to blog about, and no time
to blog about it. That being said, I write now because I had quite an exciting weekend, and now have time to write about it because I am home sick
with a cold (probably a result of the exciting weekend) I think a good part of my blogging for a while will be about the weekend, seeing as school, unlike summer time, offers few thrills (or at least that's how I feel right
now). The mildly exciting things happening at school right now are, Robotics, Spirit week, sometimes neat music in the quad, and new art
projects. My newest project is a giant model of a record, sleeve and all.
(I'm planning on modeling it after the Velvet Underground and Nico, which presents a challenge, I don't know what the back of the cover, or the label
on the record looks like, so if anyone owns a copy, or has access to a picture, please e-mail that to me, it would really help!) I like my sculpture class, other than a slightly annoying girl who thinks she knows everything about art. You know the type, constantly giving dramatic, taboo
advice, and wearing shirts expressing her opinion on the environment, and most of the time, reeking of tofu.

So, to my exciting weekend that offered me no rest.... On Friday night I had
some friends over to watch Harold and Maude, this did not go well. Its not
that they (Maddie, Wes, and Rob) did not like the movie, they just did not shut up! So when the movie was over, what seemed to be an eternity of the babbling 3, we went outside, and ran around in the dark. (I got some good
pictures of this, they are on Flickr if you want to see). After
that we had a little time to play speed Scrabble before everyone had to go home. The next morning I got up around noon, ate some eggs, and finished my
book (Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughter House Five) and started a new one (Venedikd
Erofeev's Moscow to the End of the Line). Then, after a lot of hectic
planning, and a stop at Safeway to buy mints with a hundred dollar bill, Lacey and I met up with 3 from the night before (Maddie, Wes, and Greg) and
were immediately scorned for being so late. We had planned to meet at Central park and go to the Fall Festival, but plans changed after immediately finding our recently re-Corvallisite friend Val, her brother Andy, and Friend James (who none of us had ever met, and were visiting from Beaverton for the weekend [He seemed very nice]). The group of 8 declared the festival boring and made our way to American Dream Pizza where we spent half of our time down town waiting for our pizza, and playing God with a bug I found on my arm. After that we did what we came for and wandered around
the Festival, Buying bees wax items, wandering around the momentarily
abandoned basement of the art center (quite a trip for Val and her brother
who often spent time down there before they moved to Beaverton), and stopping and chatting with all the familiar faces. After we got our fill of the festival we dropped Lacey off, and I read for a while before Greg came over, to go See the complete works of William Shakespeare (abridged). When
we got there, we found that it was sold out, reserved tickets for the next
night, and went home. Greg and I decided to watch Rushmore. The next day was one of those days where you don't do much but under certain circumstances, seems like a lot. I spent the first part of the day grocery shopping with my mom. Now that's not bad, but for 3 hours, with a horrible cold? I ended up
not eating anything until 3:00 p.m. but when I did eat, I treated myself to chicken vegetable soup, a fresh peach, chai tea, and home made apple cider. Then, I rested for a while. Then off to see the play with Greg. I was hoping to watch Immortal Beloved with Lacey that night (for piano lesson homework) but that didn't work. Forgive me for not writing a lot about the play,
because after this I have to write a review of it for extra credit. But I will tell you that it was very funny, and you should see it when it starts
touring again in November. So that practically leads us to now, staying home with this cold, and finally blogging.

P.S Some stuff to look into.

School and Robotics.

School is underway and finally getting interesting? Well not really. Though today we joined our schools robotics team, officially I know, because we're on their mailing list. That counts for something. Also my math teacher is totally insane, he's also my advisor so I see him more than most of my teachers, but thats okay becuase he's really great. Mainly because he has excellent music taste and isn't a bore. I'd like to say more nice things about, but he made us play a hellish game of integer trivia, which was blah, so I am lacking in good words for him.

In science we get to build inflatable platonic structures, no I am not giving you the definition of that, or a description of the project. I'll just tell you, it's pretty fun. If you want to check out what robotics is though you can go
here.

More weird conversations, last night my family started with how the pledge of allegiance was declared unconstitutional and ended the conversation much later on communism and how Russians can't swim.

Thursday was like a Thursday, and Friday was like a Monday

I really do apologize for not writing for 2 weeks, but it was just one thing after another distracting me from what really matters, THE BLOG! Its not that I didn't have anything to write about, it was just things like being on vacation, frantically trying to make the last days of summer matter, going to school, and not wanting to use my time out of school on the computer, and instead, sleeping.
So now I will frantically try to play catch up so I can bring you up to speed on the past 2 weeks.

Lets see, after I took my trip to Nevada you all read about, I spent a few days messing around and hanging out with friends, nothing to important. The family (myself, Amy, Paul, Austin, Jean, and Claire) went up to Cannon Beach where we rented a nice beach side A-frame. Over the 4 days we covered a lot. We spent a lot of time at the beach, flying kites, general tomfoolery, saw 4 Muchos Gracia's (ate at one), went to a big warehouse in Seaside where this guy was selling thousands of records (that only made up a 5th of his collection), bought a neat vintage sailor suit, went to Astoria, climbed the Astoria tower, went to the docks and made conversation with fishermen and sea lions, had a good rye-bread sandwich, and went to Ecola state park, where we got free admission for singing the National Anthem, only to find it was a set up. There are some neat pictures on flickr, as well as a few on my brother's account.

After we got back, I decided I had to clean my room. So I spent 2 of the 3 last days of summer cleaning, and ended up with a very neat room. I think about half of the things that were in my room before, are now either at Goodwill of in the trash. I did try doing a few fun things on the last day… I hung out with people and went to a small get together at my friend Greg's house, playing on his crazy arcade games, talking through a movie, and being introduced to speed Scrabble.

That brings us to the first day of school. That day seemed to take forever. Mainly because we had to go through our entire schedule twice, and many assemblies and welcome things. The next two days went by pretty fast because we only had to go to four classes (1 and a half hours each). I find the whole schedule pretty confusing because there are 3 different daily schedules… Monday and Wednesday—where we go to 4 of our classes, Tuesday and Thursday we go to the other 4 classes, and Friday when we go to all eight. The first day was like a Friday because we went to all our classes, Thursday was like a Thursday, and Friday was like a Monday. Whatever they think works best. I got really lucky with my first semester classes because I have 4 art classes. Yes, four art classes. My schedule for Fridays is like this:
1 Painting/Drawing
2 Painting/Drawing
3 PE
4 Jewelry
5 Literature
6 Science
7 Photography
8 Sculpture

So my first semester is pretty laid back and easy. But don't think I'm a slacker, next semester will be bit harder:
1 Study Hall
2 Study Hall
3 French
4 French
5 Literature
6 Science
7 Math
8 Math

That's not that bad though, French and Math every night, and Lit and Science projects here and there (homework-wise). Really, the only thing I really like is riding the cramped bus, so I have to sit on the floor between big, hairy guys playing rap music really loud, and have to walk a long way to my house from where the bus drops me off.

So this weekend, I have read, cleaned, baked, and watched TV in my room now that I have cable in there (I hope that won't be to tempting for me). Also, last night I went back to Greg's house, and did basically the same thing, but this time, families I really didn't know were there (I think it was some kind of joint birthday deal, and that made it awkward for me, because I did not know one of the birthday boys too well), and we had a really good steak dinner, and carrot cake.
Oh, and I got a glimpse of my new neighbors yesterday. Apparently they are a young couple, but from where I was standing they looked pretty old. They both drove up on red mopeds, each with a matching red helmet that neither of them took off the whole 3 min. they took to look at their new house (not enough time?) They also walked right next to each other and walked at the exact same pace, and were wearing similar outfits. It doesn't sound to weird, but it really was.

So really, that's it.

Remember 9/11?

Yep. Check THIS out.

I will write soon, I promise. Im just a little busy.

I was thinking today about the way people switch from one topic to the next through the same topic, for example, the other night, my dad said, "Oh tomorrow is garbage day, and labor day." From there we went off on that big statment, about federal and government work breaks and such, and recycling, as we finished dinner, the end topic was on freshwater fish. In no way did we ever stop one conversation to form another, it just so happened. I don't even know how it happened, but what a great thing.

Labor Day

Happy Labor Day! You work-aholics!

I am ready for the classes more than I am for the actual student body

High School, yeah, registration was a while ago, Maddie and Cielle picked me up and we were all transported by Cielle’s mom to our new High School. As my dad filled out forms to be handed to me later, we stood in the line sitting cross-legged and playing an intense game of rock paper scissors to pass the sluggish time. Our friend, Mick, stood behind us he was probably bored too, but at least he had us for entertainment, didn’t you Mick? When my dad came 15 minutes later, we had only moved a few feet from where we had started. We stood behind a kid who was trying to cancel his doctor’s appointment the whole time we were in line, because his mom was sure they wouldn’t make it. It took his mom 15 minutes to find a cell phone to call the doctor. There were 8 steps to registration 9 maybe if you HATE your schedule. Turn in emergency forms, Internet account agreement, pay fees for yearbook ID card etc. Next get two pictures taken, your ID card photo and your yearbook picture, pick up class schedule, get angry at the system then get your locker assignment. After that you’re free to leave or make changes to your schedule. Cielle and I are sharing a locker, and we have the best one ever. Its locker number 541 if you realize why that’s so significant, comment. We’ll be putting art and fancy little drawings for sale in there, also uphold a record collection, and maybe some schoolbooks.
I could say I am excited about high school but then I may be overstating it. I could say I am dreading it, but that’s not right either. This school has had two of my sibling before me, so they better be ready for another, I won't be kicked out in the 11th grade, or flood the quad, believe me!. Well I am not going to get fervent about high school with this post, at all just informative.

Speaking of high school, how high is it really?
