3 longer things

As it goes, there have been a number of things I would of/ could have/should of wrote about recently, and I have been too lazy to do so. Now, all these things together may make one long and boring post, so I have decided that the best course of action is to touch on each subject only briefly. Now if there are no objections, I’ll get this show on the road.

The first matter of business... A number of weeks ago Lacey invited me to a small get together with a few of her parents friends, Dr. K (you may remember him, we went on his boat this summer, you should have read about it), a Catholic priest, and some Argentineans. At first I was a little turned off, because of the fact that I am not religious (and this was a dinner for the priest, and his Holinesses), and I by all means wanted to avoid the awkwardness of a question like “so, go to church?” or “believe in God?” (I did finally realize this was silly). But Lacey promised me that we could stay in our host’s lovely downstairs, and I mean, how often do get to hangout with a professor, a priest, and Argentineans at the same time?!
So we brought over some food and drink, and as soon as we got in the door, Lacey and I headed downstairs. The room was very cool, and full of souvenirs from the doctor’s world travels, and National Geographics. The best part was the fire place that we got to feed. We quickly got out our books, and put on a CD. The CD player did skip an awful lot, but that did not stop us from listening. If I remember correctly we listened to The Magnetic Field’s Charm of the Highway Strip, Belle & Sebastian’s If You’re Feeling Sinister, and a Best of the Cocteau Twins mix my brother had made. We worked studiously on homework for a while, and then were called up for dinner. You know what we had? You don’t do you? We had a big bowl of seafood stew! (it was Friday, so no red meat!) What are the odds? I HATE seafood! So Lacey and I slowly made our way downstairs with our bubbly red mystery stew, as I glared at the clams (I think they throw those in so they could say “ha ha, look at me I’m eating shellfish, deal with it Jews!) I ate some of it, or as much as I could without gagging, Lacey had finished hers, so I put some in her bowl, she didn’t want it. After a while it started to smell bad, and we didn’t want to look like bad guests for not eating all our food. So in true child fashion, we made our way down the hall to the bathroom, where we flushed it down the toilet.
Back in our warm room, and without the putrid smell of fish, we did homework until we were called up to listen to some other guests play some authentic Argentinean music, you know guitars, and a small accordion like thing. The guests were so enthused that we went downstairs (where the dancing Floor was, Dr. K also dances) and did an authentic Argentinean salsa to the authentic Argentinian music.
Also, somewhere in there, I gave up my chair for a priest, possibly the nicest thing I’ve ever done.

Another thing, I went to Ashland Oregon (my favorite Oregon town) for Thanksgiving, and visited my grandfather and his wife Kathy (I don’t think They like me much). We did normal stuff, ate Turkey, visited with family, most of the time, this was my brother and step uncle (I think that’s what he is), and we talked about good music. Other than that, we saw a few movies, walked around town, saw a parade, and maybe most importantly, got a library card from the Ashland library. I really don’t have much more to say about Ashland, only that it is a nice place, and that I had a good time.

One last quick thing. I think I’m going to make a book (after I finish anagram names for my whole class) of drawings/descriptions, of the funny people I have classes with . Such people as: crazy Violent girl with horrible grammar and a shrill laugh you can’t tell from a scream, the meek little red headed cheerleader that has seizures, my rich with money, so therefore rich with “friends” neighbor, who spends most of his class time making funny noises, and waiting for people to laugh, and the self described genius who spends hours bitching about people not being as smart as her, but might actually be illiterate. There are plenty more!

Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving!!

I watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade today on NBC and though it may bring joy to little kids, BOY is it commercialized!!All it is is those big time companies as well as someone performing their awful new album that came out this past year. The hip-hop singers and rapper's and Disney-born "tween sensations". OH MAN! Oh come on New York!

Anyway, the meal was above excellent. And I saw Harry Potter 4, that was real nice.

The other night it was 9:30pm at Abby's and an employee turned on Mind of Mencia.

Wreaths and Science

We sold wreaths this past weekend outside in the foggy fog fog freezing. It was two and one half-hours of chilly fall weather. We had a nice booth set up to sell these Christmas wreaths in front of a furniture store, the other booth was in front of a Starbucks manned by our fellow roboteers, but they only sold one measly wreath. Cielle and I sold three, and we got some nice donations too, about $10 worth. We went out at 11 after getting a peppermint mocha and a coffeecake we were set to go for at least an hour. We started to freeze and get bored, and the fog wasn't letting up. We got out our Kurt Vonnegut books and began to read passages out of them, then some people started to wonder what we were doing, that’s when we got Ms Gentle to buy one. Two guys with nice sweaters donated. One of them had a funny accent I assume he was from New Zealand, he looked like the type. He came up and had the courage to just ask if he could have some candy, I said "Yes take as many as you want," so he took a red one, then I urged him to take one of each color, that’s when he took out his wallet. After donating he slyly slid his hand into the candy bowl again, took a different color, and left with his bike. Some people just asked us, "What's Robotics?" and then we told them, and then they walked away, we wasted our words. Cielle left to go on a search for warmer socks and failed to find gloves for me, but she found some rather interesting socks none the less. After the morning people stopped feeling sorry for us so they stopped donating, then we were forced out of the booth by our fellow roboteers around 1:30 pm, and I went to get my haircut Cielle came too.

Also if my science teacher is reading this: You know what? I am not going to pay you so I can get a better grade, thats bribery. Seriously.

The fog never let up the whole day, and it is still foggy. And last night was the first major freeze, and everyone froze, all of the people,
froze.

I'm Gone

Thursday, November 17

I did not slowly burn, I quickly cooled

I can't stop sneezing now, because the other night I stood motionless outside in the dripping rain with Cielle, and some really crazed teenagers for maybe an hour and a half whole. That's alright though because my brothers band played well, and the turn out was outrageous! (good) Then I went home, had tea and watched some fine Home & Garden television. Yep.

Also, I finally get to read a book I want in Literature, not that the books I have read weren't good. Up to this point I've read, Farenheit 451, To Kill a Mockingbird and Night, and now thanks to Cielle for lending me her book, I get to read Cats Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut. She tells me I am in for a treat.

A Portland kind of weekend

This boring ol' two day weekend became extremely interesting very quickly. I was invited to Portland by Cielle to stay at her generous Aunts house in Hillsburrito, one of those suburbs. Anyway her Aunts house is nice, and so are her Aunt, and Grandma. They also have adorable dogs.
We headed up to Portland right after school on Friday, we listened to a "Good Stuff" mix most of the way. At a small Togo coffee place in Amity we got some coffee and relished the cold rainy November day with hot coffee. Upon arrival at Cielle's Aunts house, I realized how dark it was and only 12 after 5. That night we went to New Seasons (grocery) and got Jones soda and a bunch of little food items for our dinner. My favorite had to be the mystery orange fruit we got that turned out to be not what we had hoped, IT HAD SEEDS, BY GORGE! After mealtime we went for a quick shopping trip in some area, after walking around a bland Meyer and Frank we went to a Christopher & Banks store, with really ugly sweaters. At Christopher and Banks we had a philosophical discussion on creationism and true hapiness, which resided under a wild bunch of ugly sweaters. In the same store we held a quick dance party and then we left for Cielle's aunts house. We spent the rest of that evening watching music videos, which weren't of a numerous variety. The live performance by Devo was interesting, and also Ok Go's dance number in their backyard video, clever. During the night Cielle's aunts dog came into the room and apparently fell down into the open space under the lay out bed, and was there until we woke up the next morning.
The next morning we had a quick breakfast of eggs and junk and flashed out of the house to get to Reed College and listen to a famous reporter speak. It was Anne Curry, who is news reporter for Dateline, I wasn't exactly sure what she was there for, to tell us how Americans needed to do their part in saving the United States from complete doom, I guess. It started out as, "Oh golly, another one of those pep speeches, oh noooo," but then it turned into a debate. Portlanders, that’s what they were and they wanted to let Ann know they were doing ALL they could to save American, they were trying to end the war and get answers, it’s the rest of the US that is uneducated. Oh man you had to be there, the questions asked were shocking, these people wanted to know the truth about news media. One lady stood up and refused to let Anne accuse them of not doing their part in saving the US. After the talk we checked out the Reed College campus. In the campus store Cielle bought a fancy patch it has the words, "Communism Atheist and free love" written on it surrounding Reed College. We both enjoyed some Naked juice which is a lot like Odwalla juice, but a bit healthier. It is an old college but it is still good. We shopped on Hawthorn a few blocks away from Reed, we went to Red Light, Gregs and the Buffalo Exchange, and stopping to eat at Chopsticks. They had good food, and their chopsticks were pink, imagine! Home again, this nights meal was less enjoyable than the previous night, but it was still delicious, and we went all the way to Fred Meyer to buy instant bake cookies. The kind that is frozenish and all you have to do is slice it and put it on a cookie sheet. Mmm. We watched 13 going on 30 for a while and then after the cookies were done, it was time for Take the Money and Run, a mockumentary starring Woody Allen.
This morning we were hoping to get out of the house by 9:30 am to hit up a few stores downtown, before leaving Portland. Downtown we marched around Powells, the other Buffalo exchange and Whole foods. In whole foods I bought stuff for my mom, mainly healthy chocolate. Our traditional Baguette buying happened we couldn't leave Whole Foods without one. We got some snacks and lactose free Tillamook cheese for the ride home.
In ending it was a fun weekend, but dang it, why is school not that much fun?!?!?!!?!?!?!!?!?!
THANKS Cielle!

GO!

I had to break two habits this week, and they weren't even bad ones.

The first was- I got metal bars removed from my mouth bones and now I am able to floss without taking an hour. Yet I still haven't realized that my teeth are free and continue to floss the hard way!

The second was- My rabbit died and now I have to break the habbit of having her around to pet, and feed and junk.
